Wall-Hopping

I got this idea from Studio DIY. They posted various walls in Los Angeles and I thought I would put more of an extensive list on my blog. Check out their page here, where they list out the best walls in Los Angeles. They also have other walls in other cities, but I won’t touch on that as I haven’t been to any of those cities. (Note: I will only post the ones I’ve been to. Also, some walls have been either replaced or painted over so I will mentioned them here as well). Most of these walls I’ve seen continuously on Instagram or other social mediums based on who I follow or I just randomly walk/drive by them.

You can visit these walls in a whole day if you’re just taking pictures of walls and not doing anything else (If you’re a fashion blogger, I’d recommend bringing a change of clothes..but not sure where you would change into them lol). However, if you’re site seeing or shopping, you can check it out when you’re in the area as well. I just wanted to check out the walls because well, it’s “art” and they’re really are cute backdrops!

Santa Monica:

Saskia Mural; Vidiots

  • Saskia Mural by artist Joe Nicolletti located at 302 Pico Blvd., Santa Monica, CA 90405. Not sure who painted the Animal Kingdom’s wall (the shop next door) but it gives a perfect compliment to the colored brick wall at Vidiots. I think they may have colored the wall since people were taking a pic of the mural.

LOVE bErto; Broadway Wine & Spirits

  • LOVE bErto located at 1011 Broadway, Santa Monica, CA 90401. On the West side of the Broadway Wine and Spirits (liquor) store. LOVE bErto also has other murals in Los Angeles, if you like his style. Check out his website for further details (here).  The other murals in Los Angeles are located in Venice Beach at the Otherroom on 1201 Abbot Kinney Blvd. and at Markham Middle School in Compton LA (I haven’t been to these places so I can’t comment but based on pictures I’ve seen they are still there). He also had another one at the Canal Club at Venice Beach, this one is already gone and replaced by a Charlie Chaplin mural by Trek Thunder Kelly.

Culver City:

Love Wall; Smashbox Studios

  • Love Me by Curtis Kulig located at 8549 Higuera St., Culver City, CA 90232 between Hayden Ave and Warner Drive. This wall used to be reversed. Would have love to see that here again! or at least on a different wall.

Mid-City

Mondrian Wall, Artist & Craftman’s Supply

  • The Mondrian Wall located on the South side of the Artist & Craftman’s Supply Store at 1660 S. La Cienega Blvd., Los Angeles, CA 90035. Looking at their Instagram account, they were going to change the wall and looking for artists. As of now (March 2016), it’s still there.

Rainbow Colored Wall, Diamond Foam and Fabric

  • Rainbow Brick Wall located on the South side of Diamond Foam and Fabric at 611 S. La Brea Ave, Los Angeles, CA 90036. Since you’re here, you might want to go across the street to Republique. The restaurant is so elegant with the high ceilings and the food is very good!

Inverted Los Angeles, Assembly Los Angeles

  • The whole wall says Assembly Los Angeles, however, people like to take the picture of Los Angeles since it fits in the photo. West wall of Assembly Los Angeles, 7977 Melrose Ave, Los Angeles, 90046.

Made in LA, Cisco Homes

  • Made in LA Mural. West Wall of Cisco Home, 8025 Melrose Avenue, Los Angeles, CA 90046. I fell in ❤ with the wall when I first saw this wall lol. “LA Represent!”

Pink Wall, Paul Smith

  • The Infamous Pink Wall. This wall have been taken by almost everybody. What’s funny about this wall is that depending on the filter I use, it seems cartoon-ish. This wall is located at 8221 Melrose Ave., West Hollywood, CA 90046.

Dance of the Butterflies, John & Pete’s Fine Wine and Spirits

  • This mural is located opposite John & Pete’s Fine Wine and Spirits (in their parking lot). Mural was created by Marisabel Bazan and located at 621 N. La Cienega Blvd., West Hollywood, CA 90069.

Punk Me Tender

  • Punk me tender is becoming to be one of my favorite artists. Some of the work is a bit S&M but when you get pieces like this it’s so gorgeous! Here are some of the places I could figure out the location based on Instagram. Some others are difficult to find just because most people like to take pictures and don’t link/state the place where they captured it.
    • (Pictured) West Wall of 8611 Melrose Ave., West Hollywood, CA 90069 on Huntley Dr.
    • There’s three on Larchmont Village. 2 are right next to each other: 225 N. Larchmont Blvd. Los Angeles CA 90004. 1 is close to 137 N Larchmont Blvd.
    • There’s one next to Guerilla Atelier in Downtown Los Angeles at 427 S. Hewitt St., Los Angeles, CA 90013

Retna

  • Retna is a contemporary artist born and raised in LA. He developed a constructive script which is derived from Blackletter, Egyptian Hieroglyphics, Arabic, and Hebrew calligraphy. Most of his street art can be found here: (There’s lots more but here are the “plainer” ones).
    • (Pictured) located on the side of Craig’s restaurant at 8826 Melrose Ave, West Hollywood, CA 90069
    • Gold Retna by Retna located at the Lyric Theatre: 520 N. La Brea Ave, Los Angeles, CA 90036.
    • Blue Retna on the side of the West Hollywood Public Library/Parking Structure at 625 N San Vincente Blvd., West Hollywood, CA 90069

#wehorainbow

  • Not a wall but pretty art located on the crosswalks between Santa Monica and San Vincente Boulevards in West Hollywood. Originally, the rainbow had been installed temporarily in honor of Gay Pride month in June. However, the City Council decided that the crosswalks should be there permanently thanks to their popularity and symbolism; It tells LGBT community and its visitors that “there is a safe place in America where the LGBT community is celebrated.”

Love Skyline

  • Love Mural with what I’m assuming is the Downtown LA Skyline is located across from the Hollywood Forever Cemetery (1112 Gordon St. Los Angeles, CA 90038). Artist unknown.

Los Feliz:

Heart Wall, Atwater Village

  • Located at the Intersection of Los Feliz Blvd and Brunswick Ave. (3013 Los Feliz Blvd. Los Angeles, CA 90039), the West Side wall of the Los Feliz Car Wash. Art is by Royal. This whole wall is covered by hearts and also the word Revolution in the corner with a person tagging love backwards. ❤

Downtown LA:

If you’re comparing my list with the Studio DIY, you probably noticed that some of the Downtown murals aren’t listed here. I have a couple reasons. 1) I didn’t visit them 2) some are gone/painted over.

  • The Color Block Wall (Blue, Purple and Red) at Villains Tavern Parking Lot has changed. It’s currently just Burgundy or maybe I just didn’t see the Blue. (Edited: It’s still there. In the parking lot. It’s like color block galore, literally. One side is Red. Another is Yellow, Black and Teal. Last side is Blue and Orange.)
  • The Kim West Mural on 7th Street and Mill Street is completely painted over. However, she does have 3 other murals that are intact all of which are all on 3rd St.
    • “Welcome to Hollywood” (Coyotes and Butterflies mural) at Traction and Hewitt near Wurstkutch (800 E. 3rd St. Los Angeles, CA 90013).
    • “The Reasons Remain Somewhat Mysterious” (917 E. 3rd St. Los Angeles, CA 90013).
    • “The One with the Bubbles” (E. 3rd St at S. Hewitt).

Polka Dot Wall, The Springs

  • The Polka Dot Wall was painted by the MostFamousArtist located at 608 Mateo Street, Los Angeles, CA 90021. It was a hot day so had some refreshments at the Springs. This is the skinny dip: orange, grapefruit, blood orange, lemon, lime. It cost me $10 (the bottle is glass! and I took it home…pfft had too for $10! I wonder if they give you a rebate if you give the bottle back?).

Antigirl Los Angeles Heart, Angel City Brewery

  • The above pictured is Los Angeles embedded in what I call a bleeding or dripping heart. Its by two artists who goes by the name @antigirl. Their mission is to spread love throughout Los Angeles. They call it the Heart of Los Angeles and is found at the corner of the Angel City Brewery building located in Downtown LA (216 Alameda St, Los Angeles, CA 90012). There are many other places in which this type of art are located in Los Angeles. However some were taken down because of anti street art law. I believe that there are still more hearts out there in LA, we just have to go find them or maybe just check out their website lol.

Various Locations (LA):

Angel Wings

  • The Global Angel Wings Project, is led by artist Collette Miller. She has painted wings all over the world and there’s lots of them floating around Los Angeles. I believe if you saw one, you’ve seen them all except for the one in Skid Row and the ones in Ktown. But you should visit just because all of them have different color walls. Here are the locations:
    • (pictured) Right next to Spokes ‘N Stuff, 7777 Melrose Ave, Los Angeles, CA 90046
    • East side wall of St. Regis Liquors, 8401 W. 3rd St., Los Angeles, CA 90048 (It’s on a Brown Wall).
    • West side wall of Guelaguetza Mexican Restaurant, 3014 W. Olympic Blvd., Los Angeles, CA 90006 (Orange Wall).
    • Near the entrance of Angel City Brewery, 216 S. Alameda St., Los Angeles, CA 90012
    • Art District, 321 S. Hewitt St, Los Angles, CA 90012 (Silver Gate between E 4th Place and Traction Ave).
    • Skidrow, 570 San Julian St. Los Angeles, CA 90013 (on the corner of 6th and San Julian St).
    • Fashion District, 323 W. 8th St., Los Angeles, CA (Rolled up gate. I’m pretty sure it was 8th St., not sure on the address. I passed by when I was walking towards Broadway for the Night on Broadway event).
  • There are also a bunch of pet ones too, but I don’t have a pet so difficult to remember where they’re all located. I know one is around Main St. because my friends and I tried finding one there at 2 am haha; which I think is no longer there or the establishments don’t put their gates down anymore? (446 Main St.). The ones on 8801 Santa Monica and the House of Blues are gone too.

I hope to find more art and add it to the collection. Here is a google map of all the art works noted above for convenience (Google Map) If you know other cute walls I should visit, please comment below.

When I was going around all these places, I was sad to see that some of the art that I took pictures with in 2014 were painted over especially the ones on Imperial Street. There’s this art by ROA that has this huge “rat” sleeping. The bottom part is completely painted over while the top half is still intact. All of the art is like that here. Is it just because they didn’t have enough paint to cover the top part? (Edited: I saw that they were completely defaced before painting over in someone’s Instagram, but still should have painted over the top; just saying).
